Abstract

While the enthusiasm of cardiac transplant fades and the artificial devices of the heart is far from real application, the reconstruction of the stenosed or obstructed coronary artries began to brighten up the future of cardiac paitents of despair.
The aorto-coronary bypass with autogenous vein graft is realistic and is perhaps an epoch-making procedure in the fields of heart disease. Introduction of total cardiac arrest of normothermia, superb suture material Prolene and selecting the post-stenotic segment of coronary branch with smooth intima for an anastomosis site and by far the courageous endeavour of surgeons have brought today¢¥s major breakthrough in dealing wite the failing heart. Increase of coronary blood flow is astounding and the clinical results fascinating.
In other fields of peripheral vascular surgery the attention is now reversed from the near exausting technical development to the fundamental research of the vascular disease proper.
